I got into treasure hunting when I was nine years old. I watched a Disney movie called.,The treasure of Pirates Cove. After watching that movie I was hooked. I immediately started hiding treasures for people to find. If you live in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and have a big granite rock in front of your house. You might check under it or under the stairs going into the den. You never know what you might find
As I got married and started having kids, for birthdays, I would create poems and hide them all over the house for the kids to find and solve leading them to their gifts. They had a blast and it was fun watching them Hunt.
As they got older, we then started doing escape rooms. Rarely did we not make it out. We are a family of gamers and puzzle solvers.
I am originally from Houston, so the first boots on the ground treasure that I worked on was The Secret. I have an actual X on the ground, but you can’t dig in a city park. So I have not tried to retrieve it.
Then came Gold and Greed. After watching the show, I decided that treasure hunting is what I’m gonna do in my retirement. I have multiple solves in New Mexico, Montana, and Wyoming for the Justin Posey treasure hunt. I am just waiting to go boots on the ground.
Next came, there’s treasure inside. I live in Texas and Arkansas, which is where I think the Pokémon box is hidden is an easy drive. So I’ve been out a few times so far and will go again this summer.
Then Mr. Chad Bird put a treasure hunt in my backyard. So that has been my primary target over the winter. I have been boots on the ground probably 15 to 20 times. I Started east and I’m working my way West turning over every rock that I see.
I think treasure hunting is a fun hobby. I do it for the love of the game and the adventure that it brings. Currently I hunt with my daughter. But would love to join others. I will be retiring next year. So I will have a lot of time on my hand to go out exploring. Hope to see other like-minded folks out on the trail.
Sometimes we just love the puzzle design, illustrations, or story in a hunt, whether we participated in it or not. Here are my ranked favorites.
A listing of all the hunts I've work on with optional additional notes.
